The Hills

The Hills Project began with a client who simply wanted to feel heard. After a previous design experience that didn't reflect their vision, they were ready for a fresh start—one centered around their family, their story, and the way they wanted their home to feel. I was honored to be selected as their designer.

Together, we created a warm, calming home layered with soft neutrals, natural textures, and subtle touches of color. Every space was thoughtfully designed to support their lifestyle, from welcoming areas for gathering and entertaining to quiet retreats for rest and restoration. The result is a home that feels collected, peaceful, and deeply personal.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this project was the custom artwork woven throughout the home. Rather than selecting pieces solely for aesthetics, we collaborated with artists to create works that tell our clients' story.

In the living room, artist Rebecca Kreisler created a sculptural folded-paper installation that serves as a striking focal point above the sofa. In the dining room, Sarah Herrington designed a custom two-piece abstract inspired by Matthew 18:12–14, the Parable of the Lost Sheep, which says: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.”

This piece held a special significance for the family and beautifully reflects God's relentless love. For the primary bedroom, we partnered with Olivette Hubler to create a series of European-inspired sketches of destinations meaningful to the clients' journey together—the places they met, reconnected, and honeymooned. Each piece was finished with custom matting and framing, including the location and date, transforming cherished memories into heirloom artwork.

While every detail was carefully considered, it is these one-of-a-kind pieces that truly give the home its soul. The Hills Project is a beautiful reminder that great design is about more than creating a beautiful space—it's about creating a home that tells your story.
